So uh, I haven’t seen this on my dash, but check out this kickstarter!

They’re waterballoons that SELF TIE, make a HUNDRED at a time, AND AND they’re biodegradablee!! Seriously why isn’t this all over my dash yet??

They’ve already reached WAY over their goal, but you can still get some early bird deliveries for an early start of the water balloon madness!

Can you imagine standing at the top of a very large building with this and a hose. Holding it over the edge as they finish filling. This isn’t dropping just one or two balloons. That’s at least fifty. Fifty watery bombs of doom falling in slow motion as people look up, terrified at the onslaught they are about to receive.

And while the people stand there drenched, trying to make sense of what just happened…

The next wave is already half full.

Important things for non-black tumblr users:

not every trendy phrase you see on here is for you to use. in fact, lots of the words i see floating around on here are actually aave (african american vernacular english) and when you use it and you’re not black, that’s cultural…

No you don’t understand how frustrated I am that we always depicted the Apostles as old men, especially when it comes to during-Jesus-alive stuff.

They were probably late teens to early 20s, given the time and the description and some Biblical passages.

They were not ancient old men with long ass beards and wrinkles at the Last Supper.

They were young adult rebels with a cause.

why work toward abolishing gender when you can work toward abolishing cis people

Please reblog if you think a blind person can cosplay.

I’ve been very self-conscious even though I never cosplayed, and I’m afraid that people will make fun of me if I show up at a convention with my cane, so please reblog if you wouldn’t mind?!

I’ve been with Nationwide for at least 5 years. Their customer service has always been great, and their online banking system is really good, so I’m very reluctant to switch. However, for three years I’ve been battling with them to change my title to Mx. After many complaints they agreed to remove the title from my account, but it’s taken a long time to get the email address of someone who can resolve the issue. (Message me if you need it!)

This morning, for the first time in a long time, I had to open a new current account. I was required to choose a title in order to continue with my application. Thinking about the number of times I’ve contacted them and been told that Mx could not be added to the list of titles I was expecting quite a short and limited list. This was not the case.

I chose “Librarian”, and when my application was accepted I was very amused to be called “Librarian Lodge” - and I have the email address of someone at Nationwide who can remove the title from my new account altogether so this doesn’t bother me overly. But in addition to Librarian we’ve got such gems as Princess, Ven. Archdeacon, and Le Comte.

So why is Mx so hard for them?

What you can do

If you’re nonbinary and you’ve got an account and online banking with Nationwide you can contact them through the online internal messaging system and ask them to remove the title from your account altogether.

If that’s not good enough or you’re a supporter who doesn’t need to change their title you can use that same messaging system to tell them that you support their making titles optional and you think they should add Mx to their extremely thorough list of titles.

Alternatively, here’s some more contact details. You can use them to just get in touch and tell them that if customers are allowed to be Le Comte Jones, they should also be allowed to be Mx, or to choose no title at all when applying for an account.

And remember! Activism works. :)

Tell them that Lloyds Bank can do it - it took a little while, but a manager at my local branch had their IT back room staff manually add it to my account, so it even comes up on online banking. On signing up for a Lloyds account, they looked at their list of titles, including “Sultan”, and saw “Chief Officer of the Royal Air Force” - “there must only be one of them,” the manager said. All they need to do is be reasonable, but if they want your money, they can’t dictate what they call you.

This! And the Data Protection Act requires them to keep accurate information about you. If your title isn’t gendered and they’ve not got Mx or no title they’re breaking that law.

this girl i know keeps her journal in her backpack bc she doesn’t trust it at home with her mom and i think that is the opposite of what parenting should be

my teachers took my journal from my backpack, read it, then made me talk to them about what I wrote before confiscating it and calling my parents. don’t let her take it to school

moral of the story: your journal is not completely safe unless you eat it but even then maybe not

I have mixed feelings about Facebook and gender.

I love that people are no longer being shoved into the pronoun boxes of “she” or “he” - people who’ve got their language set to US and UK English can now be referred to as singular “they”, which would suit me just fine. They can…

how many of us, as children, have had creeping thoughts of “i think i have a crush on somebody of my own gender” or “i wish i were the other gender” and dismissed them so swiftly and so effectively because those ideas were unnatural and unconscionable that they never had the chance to grow into our identities? how many more of us, when finally told from childhood that queerness is a real and good option, will be queer and will love it?

McDonald’s worker arrested after telling company president she can’t afford shoes.

"A woman who has been employed by the McDonald’s Corporation for over 10 years says she was arrested last week after she confronted the company president at a meeting and told him she couldn’t afford to buy shoes or food for her children.

Nancy Salgado, 26, told The Real News that she felt like she had to speak out during McDonald’s USA President Jeff Stratton’s speech at the Union League Club of Chicago on Friday for the sake of her children.

“It’s really hard for me to feed my two kids and struggle day to day,” she shouted as Stratton was speaking. “Do you think this is fair, that I have to be making $8.25 when I’ve worked for McDonald’s for ten years?”

“I’ve been there for forty years,” Stratton replied from the podium.

“The thing is that I need a raise. But you’re not helping your employees. How is this possible?” Salgado asked.

At that point, someone approached Salgado and informed her that she was going to be arrested.

She later recalled the encounter to The Real News’ Jessica Desvarieux.

“The strength was very powerful, like, just remembering the face of my kids, like I say, you know, just simple things like I can’t provide a pair of shoes like everybody else does, sometimes every month, or anything like that,” she said. “And he needs to know we are what all the employees at McDonald’s are going through. We’re struggling day to day to provide our needs in our houses, things for our kids. And it’s just–it gets harder and harder with just the poverty wage they have us living in.”

“They just told me, you know, well, you’re being under arrest because you just interrupted, you trespassed the property. You’re just going to go to jail,” Salgado added. “And what I remember just telling them, ‘well, like, so, because I have to speak out my mind and I had to tell the president the poverty wage I’m living in, that’s just against the law?’ You know, just be able to speak up your mind and say, you know what, I can’t survive with $8.25? It’s just — it’s ridiculous that I’m going to get arrested. You know.”

Salgado, who is still working at McDonald’s, said she had her hours cut following the arrest and feared further retaliation.

“The CEOs make millions and billions a year and why can’t they provide enough for their employees?” she wondered.”

I think that this is beyond awful for many reasons. People can’t afford to live off of the wages that they are given currently, and can’t even speak out against it. I know tumblr is great for spreading important news like this, so please help me get the word out to support this woman.
